National Board Certification

  1. What financial support does the BFT/BUSD Collective Bargaining Agreement provide to folks who have achieved National Board certification?

The first twenty-five teachers holding National Board certification in BUSD will receive an annual stipend of $1500. There are currently seven NBCT's in BUSD.

  2. Are the fee associated with becoming certified reimbursed?

Yes, BFT members who complete the process and obtain certification will be reimbursed for the fees to obtain certification. No fees (application processing charges, initial fees or assessment fees) will be reimbursed if a candidate voluntarily withdraws from the process.

  3. Is this a long term agreement between BFT and BUSD?

The current agreement goes through June 30, 2011.

  4. Is there organized District support for attempting certification?

Not at this time. BFT has been advocating for this and we hope it will be provided in the future.

  5. How can I find out more about what's involved in becoming certified?

One of the best resources is the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Web site: http://www.nbpts.org. You can also find information on the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Web Site at http://www.aft.org/tools4teachers/national-board.htm.
