The Berkeley Federation of Teachers Political Action Committee is a voluntary organization meant to provide a voice for BFT members in the political decisions that affect our working conditions and our students' learning conditions. We are active on the local, state and national levels. Teachers are uniquely able to advocate for policies and candidates that support ideal teaching and learning conditions and our PAC provides a way for us to have this voice.
In the past, the BFT Political Action Committee has participated in efforts to defeat vouchers, to advocate for adequate education funding and progressive budget priorities, and to pass school parcel taxes in Berkeley. We were instrumental in passing Measure A in the fall of 2006, and in electing Karen Hemphill to the School Board in the same election.
With public education under attack it is imperative that all members join the Political Action Committee (form available here) and actively defend their profession and the students we serve.
